Job Description

Are you ready to lead a team of talented engineers and shape the future of rail infrastructure? If you want to work on some of the largest and most rewarding tunnelling projects, in a team with a best-in-class working culture, then we would love to hear from you!

AECOM provides a full range of tunnelling and underground structure design and management services serving clients in both the public and private sectors. We provide one-stop access to services ranging across project and construction management, feasibility studies, concept, basic and detailed design, and risk management for all types of tunnelling and underground works.

We’re looking for a Principal Tunnelling Engineer to work on Major Civils projects of a tunnelling nature at all levels to join our teams across the UK. With an exciting and growing project portfolio, there is no better time to join us!

What can we offer?

  • You’ll have the opportunity to work on some of the most rewarding Civil Infrastructure/ Tunnelling projects across both the UK and abroad such as:
    • Thames Tideway Central Contract
    • HS2
    • Southern Water tunnel route selection London Power Tunnels 2 Project
    • Snowdonia Cable Undergrounding

Although advertised as a full-time role, part-time options will also be considered.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Deliver: Act as a Technical advisor for team typically managing the technical work of others
  • Provide Expertise: Specialized technical input to studies and design to complete all stages of design from feasibility to detailed designs.
  • Deliver: Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • You will ideally be educated to degree level in Civil or Civil & Structural Engineering, and/or have MSc/MEng in Soil Mechanics/ Geotechnical/ Tunnelling Engineering, coupled with a professional membership.
  • You will have broad experience as a designer in Reinforced Concrete to Eurocodes in relation to underground structures such as secant piles, capping beams, segmental shaft linings, in situ concrete structural elements, D-Walls, shafts and tunnels.
  • A Civil or Structural Engineer with good familiarity of Geotechnical Engineering principles as they apply to soil-structure interaction.
