Job Description

As a result of strategic growth, AECOM is looking for a Technical Director with a strong Building Services background to join our national Building Engineering team. This is a senior leadership role with a mix of technical and design leadership, project delivery, commercial management, client engagement and business development. You’ll work closely with clients and project teams across major projects, helping to deliver successful outcomes while identifying and winning new opportunities for the business. You will report directly to the local Sector Manager and take direction from the ANZ Building Engineer Sector Director, leading Building Engineering’s response to landmark opportunities in the market.

Our Building Engineering team brings together Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Civil, Fire Protection and Hydraulic engineers, working across a range of large, multidisciplinary projects. This role can be based in Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Canberra or Adelaide.

How you’ll make a difference:

  • Provide senior technical and design leadership across major Building Engineering projects, maintaining a strong focus on quality, programme, budget and client outcomes.
  • Lead project teams and take responsibility for the successful delivery of a portfolio of projects.
  • Work directly with clients to understand their needs, build strong relationships and provide practical engineering and design solutions.
  • Take a lead role in design management, technical reviews and project delivery, working across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support business development and work winning through client engagement, proposals, tender interviews and presentations.
  • Identify opportunities to grow AECOM’s services across existing and new clients, working with colleagues across different disciplines and locations.
  • Provide commercial oversight across projects, including budgets, pricing, contracts, project reviews and financial performance.
  • Plan, lead and own commercial conversations and outcomes with key clients.
  • Build and develop high-performing teams, supporting technical development, collaboration and career progression.
  • Work with senior leaders across AECOM to support business and resource planning and the continued growth of our Building Engineering capability.
  • Represent AECOM with clients, industry partners and the wider engineering community.

Qualifications

The qualities that help you thrive:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Fire/Hydraulics Engineering with, ideally, more than 20 years of experience in the building services industry in Australia.
  • Chartered Engineer and relevant registrations.
  • Extensive experience in building engineering, with a strong background in the design and delivery of complex, multidisciplinary building services projects.
  • Proven experience in a senior technical, project or business leadership role.
  • Strong commercial understanding, including project budgets, programmes, contracts and financial performance.
  • A strong track record of client engagement, commercial management and negotiations, business development and winning work.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing project teams.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients and senior project stakeholders.
  • An established network within the Australian building engineering and property market will be highly regarded.
