Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will apply technical expertise across the full project lifecycle; from concept through to detailed design and construction support with minimal supervision.

You will be a key technical contributor within a multidisciplinary consulting team, providing complex mechanical design scope including surface and underground material handling, ventilation systems, fixed plant, processing facilities and associated infrastructure typical of Copper / Gold / Lithium / Alumina mineral and mining environments.

How you'll make a difference:

  • Produce detailed mechanical designs, equipment layouts, and engineering drawings using AutoCAD, Microstation, and Advance Steel, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, client specifications, and applicable mining regulations.
  • Develop and manage 3D plant models and coordinate discipline clash detection using Navisworks or equivalent federated modelling tools.
  • Apply a thorough understanding of underground hard rock and/or surface mining systems including ore handling (crushers, conveyor systems, ore passes, winders/hoists), dewatering, ventilation on demand (VOD) systems, processing plant (storage bins, conveyor systems, mills, screens, tanks, pumping and piping), workshops and fixed plant.
  • Independently interpret geotechnical, civil, and structural interfaces to produce fully coordinated mechanical designs appropriate for underground environments.
  • Liaise directly with project engineers, project managers, and client representatives to manage design deliverables, resolve technical queries, and ensure on-time delivery.

Qualifications

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes, you could still be a fit for this role. Please apply, as all applications will be considered.

The qualities that help you thrive:

  • Minimum 8–12 years of mechanical drafting and design experience, with at least 5 years focused on mining and mineral processing (copper/gold/alumina preferred).
  • Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Microstation, Open Plant Modeler, Advance Steel, and Navisworks experience is essential. Revit and Plant 3D would be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience producing deliverables across all design stages (Pre-Feasibility, Feasibility, Detailed Design, and Construction).
