Overview
In this role you will lead fire protection design for major projects from concept to commissioning, shaping robust fire safety outcomes. You will engage across disciplines, mentor engineers, and act as a key client interface to support project acquisition and deliver technical leadership. Your work spans Defence, Education, Health, Commercial and Aviation sectors, helping to grow AECOM’s national Fire Protection practice. This is a hands-on leadership role with strategic impact and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities
- Lead fire protection design and delivery across complex projects from concept to commissioning
- Provide high-level technical input across wet and dry fire protection systems (hydrants, hose reels, sprinklers, alternative suppression, gas suppression, detection, EWIS/evacuation)
- Oversee design compliance with NCC and Australian Standards to ensure safety and quality
- Serve as a principal client interface to build relationships, support project acquisition and contribute to business development
- Mentor and guide engineers, fostering technical capability and career development
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, structural and specialist teams for integrated solutions
- Contribute to discipline strategy, technical standards and continuous improvement across the national Fire Protection Engineering practice
Key requirements
- 10+ years’ experience in Fire Protection/Services Engineering within an engineering consultancy or relevant government/contractor environment
- Demonstrated experience leading medium to large, multi-disciplinary projects and coordinating project teams
- Strong technical capability across fire suppression systems, fire water, detection, alarm and EWIS systems (wet and dry)
- Ability to manage client relationships, contribute to bid preparation and deliver successful project outcomes
- Relevant engineering degree with professional accreditation (NER, RPEQ or FPAS – Fire Systems Design) or eligibility to obtain
- Experience using Hyena, Revizto, Revit or AutoCAD
- Australian Citizenship is highly preferred
