Job Description
We are currently recruiting for a Principal Structural Engineer to join our expanding Building Structures team in Nottingham.
The Principal Structural Engineer will lead, manage and control mid‑large projects from concept to handover.
The successful candidate will have proven design experience and deliver on quality, time, and budget.
This role will suit a Chartered Structural Engineer who is enthusiastic, self‑motivated, and looking to advance their career.
Responsibilities
- Effectively control commercial, managerial and technical aspects of projects or parts thereof for which you are responsible.
- Sourcing opportunities and preparing fee proposals for submission to the Client, including resources and programme.
- Leading a team of engineers and technicians designing building infrastructure schemes.
- Undertaking structural engineering projects, performing analyses and calculations as appropriate.
- Supervising work, ensuring that it is carried out to the appropriate technical standard and that it is managed to programme and budget.
- Leading by example, work‑winning, value engineering, knowledge of modern computational methods and technology along with operation control skills.
- Providing high level value‑engineering led technical expertise when applying structural engineering principles, techniques and methods to the planning and design of building design projects.
- Ensuring all quality, environmental and sustainability aspects of the project are identified, assessed and addressed to maintain effective operation and project delivery.

Requirements
- To have a passion and a drive for helping Clients solve their engineering challenges, with experience in dealing directly with Clients.
- Be a team player, ready to engage across disciplines and work together.
- A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills.
- Extensive experience in Structural Engineering as a project leader, including developing detailed design drawings and calculations, specification writing, and compiling technical reports.
- A proven track record in Structural Engineering, having worked across a number of sectors, e. g. Defence, Justice, Education, Commercial, Healthcare, etc.
- Experience of seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with Clients.
- A track record of having delivered sustainable designs.
- Must have knowledge of governing structural design standards Eurocodes, BS, Building Regulations, etc.
- Commercial experience.
- Due to the nature of the work undertaken successful applicants will need to have active UK SC Clearance or the ability to gain UK SC clearance, and ideally have single UK nationality.
Qualifications
- A graduate in Structural Engineering or equivalent with experience of Structural Engineering in directly relevant fields.
- Must be a Chartered Engineer.
- Any Justice sector or equivalent experience would be beneficial but not essential.
