Overview

We're looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing Water Solutions team in Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, or Plymouth. In this role you will be key to delivering South West Water's and Wessex Water's £8 billion capital programmes spanning both water and wastewater across a mix of rural and large‑scale schemes. The position supports the two long‑term frameworks – South West Water Framework for Engineering Consultancy Services Lot 3 and Wessex Water Capital Delivery Partner Framework Agreement Lot 2.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical and ICA Design – undertake design, review of electrical and ICA elements in wastewater and water infrastructure / treatment projects and provide technical expert advice where required.
  • Quality – produce and review client deliverables, make key technical decisions and identify when specialist input from the wider team is needed.
  • Project Management – prepare and manage the production of key work packages using internal systems, assess design resources within the discipline.
  • Specification – prepare technical specifications.
  • Collaborate – work with clients and AECOM counterparts to secure stakeholder buy‑in, and contribute to AECOM's wider technical capability and innovative approach.
  • Mentor – delegate tasks, direct and oversee the work of others and act as a technical mentor to junior staff.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven design experience in managing the technical delivery of large‑scale water engineering projects with multidisciplinary knowledge.
  • Strong collaboration and coordination skills between teams, clients and stakeholders.
  • BEng or MEng in a related engineering field with experience in water and wastewater treatment.
