This role supports a major UK project and the broader Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Be a key senior member of our Transmission & Distribution team dedicated to leading and engaging with our clients to deliver technically challenging overhead line (OHL) design projects.
- Provide project technical support and leadership for the overhead lines teams on transmission projects up to 400kV.
- Provide technical support and lead the team in delivering overhead line design on complex multi-discipline projects.
- Provide technical expertise in bids and proposals and represent the company in client meetings as Principal Engineer.
- Take full responsibility for project scope and technical delivery of overhead line works.
- Provide expert technical evaluations and offer problem-solving solutions to team members.
- Support in writing proposals and outlining all project details, including timeline, resources, budget, objectives and goals.
- Provide technical input throughout project implementation, statutory planning, and participation in public consultation events.
- Lead design activities related to the overhead line, including PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, structural analysis and loading trees, design criteria, sag-tension calculations, insulator/conductor considerations, damping, clearance reports, and conductor/insulator selection.
- Undertake feasibility studies, assess conductor thermal ratings, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct studies to identify a technically preferred solution/layout to present to the client.
- Check and review engineering deliverables such as complex designs, reports, proposals, presentations, and drawing packages.
- Perform internal reviews and quality checks of engineering drawings and calculations.
Qualifications:
- Professionally qualified CEng Chartered Engineer with a recognized electrical engineering institution (e.g. the IET).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline, electrical engineering or power engineering.
- Experience delivering projects for transmission system operators such as National Grid, SSE and SPT in line with each operator’s standards.
- Project experience in overhead line engineering up to 400kV.
- Proven client relationship management and business development skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
