AECOM provides a full range of tunnelling and underground structure design and management services serving clients in both the public and private sectors. We’re looking for a Principal Tunnelling Engineer to work on Major Civils projects of a tunnelling nature at all levels to join our teams across the UK. With an exciting and growing project portfolio, there is no better time to join us!

You’ll have the opportunity to work on some of the most rewarding Civil Infrastructure/ Tunnelling projects across both the UK and abroad such as:

  • Snowdonia Cable Tunnel
  • London Power Tunnels
  • Pumped Storage schemes for Electrical Power Generation
  • Major Road tunnels

Although advertised as a full-time role, part-time options will also be considered.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Deliver: Act as a Design Lead for elements of a project, liaising directly with clients and the wider design team for the day-to-day design development but being guided by a Technical Lead / mentor.
  • Provide Expertise: We develop projects from concept through operation providing engineering and construction services for multiyear, multimillion-dollar projects for major rail and transit agencies. Our specialists provide analytical and strategic expertise for every stage of a project.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • You will ideally be educated to degree level in Civil or Civil & Structural Engineering, and/or have MSc/MEng in Soil Mechanics/ Geotechnical/ Tunnelling Engineering, with/working towards a professional membership.
  • You will have broad experience as a designer in Reinforced Concrete to Eurocodes in relation to underground structures such as secant piles, capping beams, segmental shaft linings, in situ concrete structural elements, D-Walls, shafts and tunnels.
  • A Civil or Structural Engineer with good familiarity of Geotechnical Engineering principles as they apply to soil-structure interaction.
