AECOM are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join their busy Manchester team. The main purpose of this role is to lead in the growth and development of the AECOM buildings business (structures) unit in Manchester. The position is suited to someone who will be able to mentor less experienced staff as well as undertake projects of all sizes from conception to completion.
Job Duties
- Front end engineering and design consulting skills. This is not a back office role and may include some travel.
- Leading by example, value engineering, knowledge of modern computational methods and technology along with operation control skills are desired.
- Discuss and understand complete scope of work and the specific project requirements and organize a team to execute the work in a given time frame.
- Provide high level value engineering led technical expertise when applying structural engineering principles, techniques and methods to the planning and design of building design projects.
- Appreciation of Integrated Project Delivery approach and technologies like BIM (Building information Management) are desired.
- Ensure all quality and environmental aspects of the project are identified and addressed to maintain effective operation and project delivery.
- Undertake structural analysis and design using both computer & hand techniques.
- Contribute to the independent technical review of analyses prepared by others.
- Assist in the management of project delivery in order to provide clients with results on time and budget.
- Undertake structural design of structures using current British Standards and Eurocodes.
- Have a desire to learn new skills and the ability to consider the wider engineering issues related to the work being undertaken.
- The successful candidate will be expected to take a lead role on structural engineering design for MOD and Defence-related projects, managing engineers, graduates and technicians as required.
- High level of understanding of structural analysis packages.
- Experienced in use of commercially available design software packages and Finite Element Software (e.g. Tekla Building Designer, Tedds, SCIA etc).
- Able to decide on the level of reliance and accuracy to attach to results of computer analysis and to interpret results into practical engineering solutions.
- Ability to use CAD/Revit (would be advantageous).
- Good communication including Microsoft Office packages.
- Good understanding of project finances.
- Ability to mentor other staff.
- Ability to communicate using hand drawn sketches.
- Demonstrable track record in the preparation of designs contributing to the delivery of client projects.
- Able to work on a number of projects simultaneously.
- Extensive experience on working in Structural Engineering design projects.
- Preferable experience of design in commercial, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, Pharma’ projects using latest design and construction technologies. Design of large Healthcare and Airport Projects will be an added value.
- Experience in the design of the heavy and medium industrial steel structures will be added plus.
- Must have knowledge of governing structural design standards Eurocodes, BS, Building Regs etc.
Qualifications
- Masters degree in an appropriate Civil or Structural engineering discipline.
- Bachelors degree in an appropriate Civil or Structural engineering discipline.
- Chartered Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers or actively working towards.
