Senior Fire Protection Engineer specializing in Fire Fighting Systems design, based in one of the following offices: St. Albans, London, Manchester, or Croydon. This consultancy-based role requires experience in fire protection design and a client-focused engineering environment. You will design, calculate and propose fire safety solutions for small and large projects, act as a key point of contact, and undertake surveys, reports and day-to-day project management for secured programmes. This role is ideal for an established consultant seeking progression or someone with strong technical depth who wishes to join a respected fire safety consultancy.
AECOM Buildings & Places delivers modern, complex and iconic structures through multidisciplinary engineering, including Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental Engineering, Cost & Project Management and Quantity Surveying. Our team consists of over 400 engineers nationwide, delivering projects across residential, commercial, aviation, defence, healthcare, education, pharmaceutical, sports and leisure sectors. Notable projects include: Palace of Westminster, Southbank Place, Arctic Science Centres, BBC Broadcasting House, the Titanic Building (Belfast), and St Pancras Chambers Hotel.
Key Responsibilities- Design, Calculations & Proposals: Lead FP design on projects, support the lead FP engineer on complex projects, and prepare design packages for various RIBA stages (drawings, specifications, reports, hydraulic calculations). Create Fire Suppression System solutions for multiple applications at all stages of design. Perform calculations including sprinkler water supplies and gaseous agent quantities. Support remote project-delivery teams.
- Survey & Reporting: Conduct technical reviews, assist in solving design issues, and perform field investigations or inspections.
- Client & Team Coordination: Communicate effectively with project teams, clients, authorities, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Project Management: Support project managers on projects of varying scale, delivery and technical assurance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong quantitative and analytical abilities.
- Relevant engineering degree or professional qualification; experience in consultancy or related industries.
- Knowledge of British & International standards and Building Regulations.
- Experience with Fire Suppression Systems (sprinklers, water mist, gaseous suppression, risers, hydrants, hose reels, hypoxic systems).
- Software proficiency (Word, Excel, CAD, Revit, hydraulic tools).
- Evidence of CPD and professional development; BEng, MEng or working towards it; Engineering Council registration (CEng/IEng) or working towards it.
