We are currently recruiting for a Bridge Engineer with experience of bridge design, inspection, assessment and refurbishment schemes, to join our busy and expanding experienced Manchester Bridges and Structures team. Our Manchester office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for over 40 years, mainly in the North West but also throughout the UK and overseas. The team provides assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of schemes, either as standalone bridge commissions or as part of multidisciplinary major projects.
Here's what you'll do:
- Current projects include a major UK 5 year rail network infrastructure framework assessment contract.
- In addition to the significant long term commissions on bridge assessment and inspection, principally in the rail environment, our initial assessment often leads to the requirement for the design of the refurbishment, strengthening or replacement.
- We are also at present undertaking the design of the refurbishments schemes; Manchester Street Viaduct and Yew Tree Footbridge in Knowsley.
- We have recently won few commissions with St. Helens BC and Warrington BC involving structural design works and undertaking principal bridge inspections and general inspections.
- More recently we have taken over the asset management of Knowsley MBC under a framework agreement which is generating a healthy sustained workload.
As a Bridge Engineer you will have the following daily responsibilities:
- Undertake rail and road bridges and associated structural engineering schemes from inspection and assessment, feasibility through to detailed design.
- Assist with supervision of Graduate Engineers and Technicians as appropriate.
- Assist with preparation of technical documentation through to client sign off of Technical Approval documentation.
- Hands on technical design on road and/or rail structures.
- Hands on assessment of road and/or rail structures.
- Structural inspections and reporting.
- Excellent technical and communication skills both verbal and written.
- Client liaison.
- Assist with production of tenders including quality documentation and costings.
- Assist with Project Management including programme and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.
Qualifications:
- Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.
- MSc level or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering.
- Graduate Member with ICE and IStructE and proven commitment to gaining Chartership.
- Experience with bridge and related structural inspection assessment and design schemes.
- Knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards and assessment codes.
- Working knowledge of AutoCad.
- Experience in the design of concrete, steel, timber and masonry structures.
- Design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.
- Experience in road, rail and water bridge projects.
- Experience in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- High level technical skills in current inspection, assessment and design and be able to assist teams of graduate and technicians in such projects.
- Understanding of project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation.
- You will have a current clean driving license and be willing to travel throughout the UK to visit sites.
At AECOM, we value everyone's unique contributions and perspectives. If you meet some of the requirements above or have transferable skills you believe would benefit us, we would be delighted to hear from you!
