We are seeking passionate Assistant Cost Managers and Cost Managers with experience in the gas sector to join our teams across the North, Midlands and Scotland Region, operating from 8 regional offices. You will be working on a variety of interesting and challenging projects, both nationally and locally, supporting capital investment projects in gas transmission and storage.

What you’ll do:

  • Support the successful delivery of cost/commercial management commissions.
  • Ensure commissions are managed and completed efficiently, within budget and to the client’s satisfaction.
  • Assist in monitoring project risks (threats and opportunities).
  • Prepare supporting cost reports and assist in project reviews at appropriate points throughout the project lifecycle, informing governance decisions of projects by providing evaluations of financial performance, risk, and contingency.
  • Attend project meetings, taking responsibility for cost/commercial matters.
  • Lead support to project managers on contract management services on NEC4 contracts, administering through a contract management system.
  • Advise the client on procurement strategies and review tender documentation.
  • Assist in the successful delivery of multi‑disciplinary gas transmission and storage projects.
  • Actively manage contractors’ and subcontractors’ payments and final accounts.
  • Develop strong relationships with clients and members of the cross‑functional team.
  • Support business development opportunities with existing and new clients.

Qualifications:

  • Experience of working within a client organisation, either directly or through a co‑location/secondment arrangement.
  • Experience of NEC suite of contracts, particularly the Professional Services Contract (PSC) and Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC).
  • Experience of working as part of integrated, multi‑organisation, collaborative teams.
  • Infrastructure and cost/commercial management experience, delivering projects.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Highly motivated with excellent industry network.
  • Relationship building skills – ability to build strong relationships with clients, teams, and stakeholders as well as the ability to build and maintain networks of business contacts.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • A team player with a ‘can‑do’ attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful, and flexible.
  • Experience of working on projects in gas transmission and storage.
  • A degree in quantity surveying or another relevant subject.
  • A member of a related professional body (e.g. MRICS or equivalent), or working towards it.
