Senior Platform Engineer in London

In AECOM’s AI Engineering team your code will directly shape the physical world around us. We build AI-driven technology that revolutionises how infrastructure and buildings are designed and engineered; reducing waste, cutting CO₂, and making the built environment more efficient and sustainable. This is where software has measurable, real-world impact.

As part of our AI Engineering team, you will own the infrastructure and delivery pipelines that keep our AI-driven products reliable, scalable, and fast. You will design and maintain the cloud environments, CI/CD workflows, and observability systems that enable our engineers to ship with confidence. This is a high-ownership role where your decisions directly affect developer velocity and production stability.

• Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure on Azure to support AI/ML workloads and SaaS product delivery
• Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, reliable, and repeatable deployments across environments
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to manage and version all cloud resources
• Build and maintain observability and monitoring systems (Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic stack) to ensure production reliability
• Collaborate closely with AI/ML engineers and product engineers to optimise deployment workflows for model serving and application delivery
• Drive security best practices across infrastructure, including secrets management, network policies, and access controls
• Contribute to architecture decisions and champion reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency across the platform

Must-Have Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience in a DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering role
• Strong experience with Azure cloud services (compute, networking, storage, identity)
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
• Solid experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions)
• Hands-on experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)
• Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, or similar)
• Understanding of networking fundamentals, security best practices, and secrets management
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic stack)

Preferred Skills

• Experience supporting ML/AI workloads in production, including GPU-based infrastructure and model serving pipelines
• Knowledge of cost optimisation strategies for cloud infrastructure
• Experience with database administration and management (e.g. Postgres)
• Background in regulated or enterprise environments with compliance requirements
