Whether improving your commute, keeping the lights on, providing access to clean water, or transforming skylines, our work helps people and communities thrive. We are the world's trusted infrastructure consulting firm, partnering with clients to solve the world’s most complex challenges and build legacies for future generations.
Job Description
Start here. Grow here. Are you ready to lead a team of talented engineers and shape the future of energy infrastructure? In this crucial role, you will be a key member of our Transmission & Distribution Overhead Lines team dedicated to leading and engaging with our clients to deliver technically challenging OHL design projects. Your primary focus will be to provide project technical support for the delivery of our major transmission projects, encompassing overhead transmission lines up to 400kV - including National Grids Great Grid Upgrade.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Produce detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for overhead line structures, route layouts, and associated components.
- Prepare wire clearance diagrams, including ground profiles, crossing assessments, statutory clearances, and conductor behaviour envelopes.
- Generate detailed insulator set drawings, including string configurations, hardware assemblies, phase spacing, and structure interface details for 132kV–400kV OHL systems.
- Support Design engineers in producing PLS‑CADD Plan & Profile drawings.
- Produce construction drawings, General Arrangements (GAs), fabrication details, schematics, and as‑built drawings.
- Integrate survey data, LiDAR/point clouds, GIS information, and PLS‑CADD outputs into CAD deliverables.
- Develop and maintain drawing libraries, templates, and symbols for the OHL discipline.
- Ensure full adherence to NG/ET/SR_135 – Drawings Management Process for any work affecting National Grid transmission assets, including design revisions and approvals through ECM/IDMS systems.
- Prepare drawing packs, as well as support and maintain Site Drawing Index (SDI), Contract Drawing List (CDL) and the Development Document Register.
- Work across the development phase; reviewing existing site drawings and suitability to reuse and assist with review master drawings (ECM/IDMS) and verifying that records are up-to-date and non conflicting ahead of projects starting.
- Work across the delivery phase; ensuring all modified or new drawings comply with NG/ET/SR_135 and NG/ET/SR_188 Design Management requirements, providing coordination support by taking part in drawing reviews and commissioning workshops.
- Provide excellent technical support to milestone projects; interpreting engineering calculations to produce and validate accurate technical drawings using PLS-CADD outputs.
Enjoy the Perks. At AECOM, you'll enjoy a range of core and personalised benefits designed to support your future and well-being, customised to fit your lifestyle. Take advantage of career development opportunities, our flexible hybrid working model to ensure a work-life balance that suits your lifestyle, technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering days.

- CAD certification (AutoCAD/Bentley/PLS‑CADD) beneficial.
- CAD experience within the power transmission, overhead line, utility, or civil/structural engineering sector is preferred.
- Experience using AutoCAD, MicroStation, Bentley tools, or similar CAD platforms.
- Strong experience with PLS‑CADD including plan/profile generation and 3D clearance analysis. (Optional).
- Experience producing drawings for 132kV, 275kV, and/or 400kV OHL projects is highly desirable.
- Prior experience working under National Grid or DNO standards.
- Ability to work with Georeferenced point clouds, LiDAR, GIS data, and 3D terrain models.
