Overview
As a Principal Environmental Consultant at AECOM, you lead environmental inputs to EIA processes across large infrastructure schemes. You’ll work within the UK & Ireland Environment team to shape strategy, coordinate multi-disciplinary inputs, and deliver high-quality assessments across diverse project lifecycles. The role blends technical leadership with client-facing engagement and business development, contributing to AECOM’s net-zero and ESG ambitions. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve environmental outcomes and support secure, well-planned developments. Responsibilities
- Manage environmental inputs to EIA screening, scoping, and Environmental Statements, and future Environmental Outcomes Reports
- Oversee project lifecycle from early strategy to construction and operation, across multiple consenting regimes (DCO, TCPA, TWA, hybrid Bill)
- Ensure deliverables meet high quality standards and adhere to quality management procedures
- Apply project management skills to allocate resources and manage budgets
- Collaborate with integrated design teams to identify constraints and develop mitigation and benefit opportunities
- Maintain and grow client relationships and internal supply teams; identify and lead business development opportunities and fee/proposal development
Key requirements
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary environmental inputs to infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of EIA, environmental assessment methods, planning legislation, and consenting/licensing regimes
- Experience in consultancy services with project management skills (programming, resourcing, budgeting)
- Ability to coordinate specialist technical inputs and engage with stakeholders; strong communication and reporting skills
- Degree in a relevant environmental discipline; Masters preferred; professional membership; Chartered Environmentalist status beneficial; mentoring/line management interest would be advantageous
- Willingness to travel and work flexibly across projects and stakeholder groups
