With a strong passion and interest in Evaluation and Benefits Management, this Technical Specialist role in our Transportation team is a leadership position focused on supporting growth in our evaluation and benefits management business. Responsibilities will include technical leadership; client engagement; project delivery; work winning and business development; and team development. As a strong critical thinker and team player, the ideal candidate should have extensive experience in evaluation and benefits management, strong leadership skills and a commitment to innovation and technical excellence.
We are currently looking for candidates to lead on the technical delivery of a variety of projects within our evaluation and benefits management portfolio. The role will suit a self-motivated and rigorous individual who is aspiring to take a lead role in winning new work, developing capability and delivering projects across the UK.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Strategic Leadership: Based on your proven track record and drawing upon your excellent client relation skills, you will help in leading the development and execution of strategic initiatives to grow the evaluation and benefits management work area.
- Client and Stakeholder Engagement: You will build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, including public sector agencies, private sector, and infrastructure operators. Providing strategic advice to clients, ensuring their goals are met with robust and proportionate solutions, using industry leading techniques, will be a key part of the role. You will be expected to represent AECOM at client meetings, industry events and conferences, enhancing the company’s reputation as a leader in evaluation and benefits management.
- Technical Excellence: We are seeking an individual to provide oversight the delivery of complex evaluation and benefits management projects. Drawing on your technical excellence and attention to detail, you will help enhance our technical capability and deliver high quality deliverables based on best practice in the field including the updated Magenta Book and innovative/robust evaluation methodologies. You will be responsible for directing and managing teams to ensure deliverables maximise value and impact for our clients and their customers.
- Business Development: You will work with a wider leadership team to identify and pursue new business opportunities in the evaluation and benefits management sector. Furthermore, we are looking for candidates with strong experience of preparing bids and proposals. Collaboration with other business lines on multidisciplinary projects is an expectation of the role.
- Team Development: Support the wider leadership in the ongoing recruitment, mentoring and development of our high-performing evaluation and benefits management team. Support in furthering our culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement within the team. Promote diversity and inclusion, ensuring a supportive and equitable workplace.

Qualifications
Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Extensive experience of working in the evaluation field.
- Higher degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- Chartered Status or Membership in professional bodies such as the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) or Transport Planning Society (TPS) or UK Evaluation Society.
- Practical experience of applying mixed methods in evaluation.
- Proven expertise in theory based and experimental/quasi experimental evaluation design for projects and programmes relevant to the transport context.
- Proven track record in design and implementation of Benefits Management.
- Strong analytical competencies directly applicable to a consultancy setting, e.g. handling and interrogation of complex datasets, statistical analysis, economics, social value etc.
- Critical thinker with problem solving mindset, comfortable developing and navigating evaluation teams and their clients through imperfect data environments.
- Strong leadership, team management and mentoring capabilities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver results.
- Comprehensive knowledge of transport planning principles, policies, and regulations in the UK&I region.
- Understanding of how AI platforms can assist in the execution of evaluation and benefits management projects.
