We’re looking for a Marine Ecologist Lead (Technical Director) to join our Nature team in the UK and Ireland, with locations in Birmingham, Cambridge, Dublin and flexible hybrid work options.
Responsibilities
- Provide subject‑matter expertise and deliver marine ecological impact assessments (HRA, MCZ, WFD) and marine consenting advice across the full EIA/DCO development cycle.
- Act as lead verifier for all marine ecology projects, ensuring high‑quality deliverables and compliance with internal quality management procedures.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (underwater acoustics, coastal processes, water science, marine archaeology, EIA specialists) to improve project environmental outcomes.
- Lead business‑development activities, including technical and fee proposals, marketing, and client liaison.
- Manage projects, resources and budgets, report progress, and procure specialist subcontractors; project‑management training provided to achieve AECOM accreditation.
- Mentor and develop marine ecology team members, fostering a supportive environment for growth.
Qualifications
- Comprehensive marine ecological expertise with demonstrable experience preparing and reviewing specialist technical chapters and associated impact assessments (HRA, MCZ, WFD).
- Detailed knowledge of marine consenting and licensing regimes across the UK and experience liaising with and submitting applications to regulatory bodies (MOE, NRW, Scottish MD, Crown Estate).
- Ability to apply advanced scientific practices and technologies to diverse marine projects.
- Team‑leadership experience, including line management and mentorship of junior staff.
- Business‑development experience, including tender preparation and client presentations.
