We are looking to enhance and grow our Electrification & Power team with a Senior Rail Traction Power / Substation Engineer. You will have delivered rail projects to client satisfaction at the appropriate standard, ensuring accuracy of drawings and calculations, and that designs are cost‑effective, constructable and compliant with relevant codes and standards. You will join a growing team delivering traction power and substation projects across the UK, with opportunities to support international projects. Our work spans the full project lifecycle from feasibility studies and outline design through to detailed design and construction support. You will take responsibility for technical delivery across key projects, operating at Independent Checker level and supporting the development of engineers within the team. You will have a strong understanding of Health & Safety and CDM requirements.
Responsibilities
- Deliver rail projects to client satisfaction at the appropriate standard, ensuring accuracy of drawings and calculations, and that designs are cost‑effective, constructable and compliant with relevant codes and standards.
- Operate at Independent Checker level and support the development of engineers within the team.
- Provide technical oversight and delivery of design packages across multiple project stages.
- Coordinate technical delivery across the project team.
- Provide guidance and support to designers, early careers and junior engineers.
- Liaise with clients and stakeholders as required.
- Develop concept and detailed design documentation including calculations, reports and specifications.
- Undertake independent technical checks of calculations, drawings and reports.
- Review and provide technical guidance on design outputs produced by others.
- Undertake site visits and surveys; develop and review project specifications for construction and provide construction stage design support where required.
- Attend site during the construction phase if necessary.
Qualifications
- Experience in traction power and high voltage substation design.
- Experience delivering projects across feasibility, outline and detailed design stages.
- Experience acting as CRE / Lead Engineer is advantageous. Where prior CRE experience has not been gained, support and mentoring will be provided to enable progression to that level of responsibility.
- Strong understanding of relevant industry standards and design governance.
- Low voltage experience desirable but not essential.
