Our Traffic Engineering Teams work throughout the UK&I and are involved in a wide range of projects from concept and preliminary design, traffic modelling, through to detailed design and implementation. Graduates gain experience in all stages of a project lifecycle and often work alongside other construction professionals such as urban designers in multidisciplinary teams to create great urban spaces. We deliver sustainable, cost-effective solutions to local and national authorities.
Work is fast-paced and requires creativity, tenacity and excellent communication to achieve the right result for our clients while respecting stakeholders and maintaining industry standards. Recent projects include:
- Award-winning Cycle Superhighways in London
- Design of a new Manchester Metrolink extension to Trafford Park
- Design of the Oxford Street Pedestrianisation
- Design of the Melton Mowbray Bypass
- Creation of innovative multimodal corridors in Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Dublin
At the start of their placement, graduates are paired with an experienced engineer who guides and mentors them on live projects. Training includes our software engineering tools such as AutoCAD/Civil 3D and traffic modelling software including LINSIG, TRANSYT and VISSIM. Early work assists in developing designs through different stages, attending meetings and workshops with clients and other design professionals. As graduates progress, they take on more responsibility in managing projects from inception to completion.
Candidates will apply industry-leading computer software and BIM modelling programmes across diverse projects such as:
- Road & Street design
- Cycle lane design
- Bus Priority and BRT Design
- Streetscape improvement projects
- Traffic management planning and design
- Traffic signal design
- Traffic signage design
- Traffic modelling (micro-simulation)
Our Traffic Engineering graduates also have opportunities to work on major highways projects, rotating to provide broad training across all Roads Graduate track.
Qualifications:
- BEng in Civil Engineering, General Engineering, or BA/BSc Geography, with a 2:1 (or equivalent) or above
- MEng in Civil Engineering, General Engineering, with a 2:1 (or equivalent) or above, or MA/MSc Geography an advantage
- Or MSc in Transport Planning
- Masters in Mathematics
- Enthusiastic, hard-working, technically proficient, with ambition and drive
- Basic computer skills on Word and Excel essential
- Good report writing skills beneficial
- Ability to structure and prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team
- Ability to work in a team and independently without losing initiative and focus
