Job Description
Are you ready to join a team of talented engineers and shape the future of energy infrastructure? We are currently looking to hire a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to deliver cutting-edge designs for energy storage, solar and grid connection projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the largest BESS projects in the UK and Europe, shaping the future of sustainable energy.
The focus of this role is renewables and energy storage, grid connections, and private networks at voltage levels normally between 11kV to 400kV. Typical projects include feasibility, optioneering, FEED, detailed design and design assurance on existing or new build renewable generation, including pumped storage hydro, PV and wind – typically with collocated Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Work on large projects and frameworks with renewable energy generation developers, mostly in UK and Ireland but also with some global projects.
- Undertake Front End Engineering Design (FEED), design for planning, feasibility studies etc. of energy storage systems including associated grid connections, control and metering.
- Provide support and gain exposure to bidding, project and quality management.
- Design the BESS balance of plant (BOP) systems.
- Develop grid connection solutions (11kV–400kV) for energy storage and renewables.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and clients to deliver innovative solutions.
Qualifications
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- A Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Suitable experience working in a FEED designer, detailed design or owner’s engineer role.
- A good understanding of both renewable generation and energy storage technology in general and, in particular, battery storage technology of all types and chemistries.
- Experience designing the HV grid connection, metering, control requirements etc. associated with battery storage installations, including BESS collocated with renewable energy generation.
- Previous experience with consultancy, contractor, equipment manufacturer or electrical utility in the energy sector.
- Knowledge of grid connection requirements for renewable generation and energy storage, including G99, G100 and grid code requirements for transmission connected assets.
- A good understanding of electrical plant items and control systems such as transformers, cables, circuit breakers, HV Protection & Control.
- Experience with software tools (AutoCAD, EnergyPro, CYMCAP, Cableizer, Autodesk Construction Cloud, ETAP, DigSILENT).
- Knowledge of emerging technologies (Hybrid systems-grid forming inverters, LDES and alternative battery technology).
- A good team player with a client-focused mindset and customer facing skills.
We're also ideally looking for:
- Project management experience (incl. budget, time and quality).
- Professional registration is desirable (e.g., Chartered Engineer or working toward it).
- Experience of multi-discipline engineering projects.
- Experience of design & site construction review.
