Job Description
Start here. Grow here. Our Water Team in Scotland is delivering a diverse and high-impact portfolio of projects that shape sustainable and resilient water systems for generations to come. One of our most recent wins includes Scottish Water’s SR27 Enterprise. AECOM has been named preferred bidder for one of two Primary Designers on this transformational, multi-billion-pound programme. It is the highest value venture ever put into place by Scottish Water and will reshape Scotland’s water and wastewater infrastructure from 2027 to 2033 (with potential to extend for another six years).
AECOM will be at the heart of this groundbreaking delivery model, shaping design excellence at scale and working with Scottish Water and our Enterprise Partners to help drive outcomes that deliver value for customers in Scotland and go beyond net zero. Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Mechanical Engineer in one of our Scotland offices – whilst also taking advantage of work-from-home days through our hybrid work approach.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Prepare feasibility studies, outline design, detailed design and construction support.
- Produce plant layouts, design drawings and mechanical plant selection including specifications, WIMES data sheets, valve schedules, equipment schedules, lifting strategies, hydraulic headloss calculations and P&IDs for water projects.
- Liaise and collaborate with our water and other discipline teams including civil, electrical, process and mechanical engineers nationwide.
- Visit sites to carry surveys and support liaisons with clients, contractors and suppliers.
- Attend and contribute to design review meetings such as HAZOPs, HAZIDs, ALMs and SWIFTS.
Enjoy the Perks. You’ll thrive in an inclusive and forward-thinking environment where your contributions are valued. At AECOM, you’ll enjoy a range of core benefits designed to support your future and well-being, and flexible benefits you can customise to suit your lifestyle. Take advantage of our technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering days to accelerate your career development, and utilise our flexible hybrid working model to create a healthy work-life balance. We recognise that everyone’s circumstances are different, so we’re more than happy to discuss part-time or flexible working arrangements.

- A degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
- Progress towards Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution, such as IMechE.
- A proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, technical specifications, and calculations with confidence and precision.
- Hands-on experience in delivering innovative solutions for water and wastewater engineering projects.
