Join AECOM as a Senior Engineer to lead the design and delivery of innovative traffic engineering, Active Travel, and urban realm projects across South Wales and beyond. This is your opportunity to shape safer, greener, and more inclusive transport networks that have a real impact on communities. As a senior member of our collaborative, multidisciplinary team, you’ll work on high-profile projects for clients such as Transport for Wales, Cardiff Council, Swansea Council, Newport City Council, and key regional frameworks.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Lead the design and delivery of traffic engineering, Active Travel, and urban realm schemes.
  • Prepare and review technical outputs including drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Ensure all work meets project briefs, design standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across AECOM and external stakeholders.
  • Delegate and coordinate tasks for graduates and technicians, supporting their development.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Champion Health & Safety best practices, including CDM responsibilities.
  • Report regularly to the Principal Engineer or Project Manager on progress and risks.

We’re seeking a confident and capable engineer with a strong background in Active Travel and traffic engineering. You’ll be passionate about delivering high-quality infrastructure that improves mobility, safety, and sustainability.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in scoping, preliminary, and detailed design of Active Travel and traffic engineering schemes.
  • Expertise in infrastructure for walking, cycling, bus priority, and traffic calming.
  • Strong knowledge of design elements such as drainage, junctions, and carriageway improvements.
  • Familiarity with relevant design standards including TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, and the Traffic Signs Manual.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety and CDM regulations.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A relevant degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Working towards (or already achieved) Incorporated or Chartered status with a professional institution.
