Graduate Transport Planning Consultant – Chesterfield/Birmingham (Summer 2026)

We are looking for an ambitious, self-motivated individual to support our large, collaborative Transport Planning Team and the delivery of a diverse range of transport projects across the Midlands and UK. Your role will be planning focused, working mostly with public sector clients, providing technical transport planning advice. This could include work on large strategic transport studies, business case development, Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans, electric vehicle studies, Monitoring and Evaluation Plans, and public transport strategies. We will provide training and support to progress your career and develop professionally. You will be working within a positive culture where learning and development are actively promoted.

Early work with us will typically involve supporting senior staff with technical input into a variety of projects. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in data collection and analysis
  • Reviewing and building economic models
  • Reviewing and drafting infrastructure proposal documents and associated business cases
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports, presentations, bids and proposals
  • Attending meetings and workshops with clients and members of other disciplines

Qualifications

  • A Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, Economics, Maths, or an MSc in Transport Planning with a 2:1 classification (or equivalent) or above
  • A Masters degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, Economics, Maths, or Transport Planning would be an advantage
  • Transport Planning modules or experience would be an advantage
  • Ability to demonstrate a good technical understanding of Transport Planning
  • Demonstrable interest in Transport Planning and developing a career in this industry
  • Willing and able to work towards chartership with the TPS, CIHT, or ICE
  • Good Microsoft Office skills essential such as Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external clients, both verbally and in writing, with the confidence to engage with a variety of people and to explain and discuss technical issues and capture feedback
  • Enthusiastic, hard-working, with ambition and drive
  • Ability to structure and prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team
  • Ability to work in a team and independently without losing initiative and focus
