Our portfolio includes nationwide and international projects such as the Great Grid Upgrade, STEP Fusion, Glen Earrach pumped‑storage hydro project, Northern Powerhouse Rail, HMNB Devonport redevelopment and overseas projects like Al Ula Neom and North‑Bohnia High‑Speed Rail Line in Sweden. Clients include National Grid, BP, Sellafield, Associated British Ports, Transport Scotland, National Highways, Network Rail and numerous contractors and developers.
Responsibilities
- Desk studies, site inspections, rock‑face surveys and geomorphological mapping
- Contribute to the design, planning and procurement of ground investigations
- Supervision of ground investigation fieldwork
- Geological interpretation and preparation of interpretative reports
- Analysis of geotechnical data, preparation of ground models, design and reporting on foundations, retaining walls, soil‑slope stability, earthworks and rock‑slope stabilisation
- Use of digital software such as Openground for data management and Leapfrog for 3D geological modelling
- Opportunity to develop skills in 2D/3D numerical analysis through available software packages
Qualifications
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or Geology with a 2:1 classification (or equivalent) or above
- An MSc/MEng in Soil Mechanics / Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is an advantage
- Competent use of Microsoft Office; competent use of AutoCAD/Civil 3D is desirable
- Geotechnical work experience is preferred but not essential
- Willingness to work towards professional qualifications (ICE IOM3 or Geological Society)
- Demonstrable interest in geotechnical projects and promoting geotechnical activities with clients
- Flexibility to work away from home on sites and occasionally at other offices
- Motivation to meet client and business expectations, including consideration of financial and commercial implications
- Effective communication skills with colleagues and clients, both verbally and in writing
- Capability to structure and prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team
- Ability to work independently without losing initiative and focus
