It is the highest value venture ever put into place by Scottish Water and will reshape Scotland's water and wastewater infrastructure from 2027 to 2033 (with potential to extend for another 6 years). Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Mechanical Engineer in one of our Scotland offices – whilst also taking advantage of work from home days through our hybrid work approach.
Here's what you'll do:
- Prepare feasibility studies, outline design, detailed design and construction support.
- Produce Plant layouts, design drawings and mechanical plant selection including specifications, WIMES Data Sheets, Valve schedules, Equipment Schedules, lifting strategies, hydraulic headloss calculations and P&IDs.
- Liaise and collaborate with our water and other discipline teams including civil, electrical, process and mechanical engineers nationwide.
- Visit site to carry surveys and support of liaisons with clients, contractors & suppliers.
- Lead and contribute design review meetings such as HAZOPs, HAZIDs, ALMs and SWIFTS.
- Act as Mechanical Lead on projects including WwTW, WTW and Infrastructure.
- Support the Project Manager and Design Lead to successfully deliver the Mechanical Scope to programme and budget.
- Assist the Project Manager to set realistic programmes and budgets for Mechanical projects.
- Be a Line manager for Mechanical Graduate, Engineer and Senior Engineers.

A degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
Be a Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution, such as IMechE.
A proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, technical specifications, and calculations with confidence and precision.
Hands-on experience in delivering innovative solutions for water and wastewater engineering projects.
