We are seeking Assistant and Cost Managers with experience in the gas sector across our North, Midlands, and Scotland Region.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Support the successful delivery of cost/commercial management commissions.
  • Ensure commissions are managed and completed efficiently, within budget and to the client’s satisfaction.
  • Assist in monitoring project risks (threats and opportunities).
  • Prepare supporting cost reports and assist in project reviews at appropriate points throughout the project lifecycle, informing governance decisions of projects by providing evaluations of financial performance, risk, and contingency.
  • Attend project meetings, taking responsibility for cost/commercial matters.
  • Lead support to project managers on contract management services on NEC4 contracts, administering through a contract management system.
  • Advise the client on procurement strategies and review tender documentation.
  • Assist in the successful delivery of multi-disciplinary gas transmission and storage projects.
  • Actively manage contractors and subcontractors’ payments and final accounts.
  • Develop strong relationships with clients and members of the cross-functional team.
  • Support business development opportunities with existing and new clients.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Experience working within a client organization, either directly or through co-location/secondment.
  • Experience with the NEC suite of contracts, particularly PSC and ECC.
  • Experience working as part of integrated, multi-organization collaborative teams.
  • Infrastructure and cost/commercial management experience, delivering projects.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Highly motivated with an extensive industry network.
  • Relationship building skills – ability to build strong relationships with clients, teams, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • A team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful, and flexible.
  • Experience on gas transmission and storage projects.
  • Professional development engagement, including pursuing qualifications such as RICS or other recognized bodies.
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Financial acumen: budgeting and financial oversight.
  • Adaptability and problem-solving ability.
  • Strategic thinking aligned to National Grid objectives.
  • Minimum five years’ cost/commercial management experience.
  • A degree in quantity surveying or a related subject.
  • A member of a related professional body (e.g., MRICS) or working towards one.
