Overview

As a Senior Public Health Engineer in AECOM’s Buildings & Places team, you will lead multidisciplinary PH and Fire Protection design across sectors and projects. You’ll collaborate with clients and internal teams to deliver sustainable, compliant schemes within time and budget. The role supports decarbonisation and water efficiency agendas while developing technical and leadership skills. This is a hybrid, office‑based role across multiple UK locations, offering exposure to flagship projects and a clear path for career growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Public Health and Fire Protection design on projects and coordinate with other disciplines
  • Client liaison, mentoring of staff, and leading design teams to develop schemes and detailed designs
  • Take point on multiple PH system designs and calculations; support lead engineer as needed
  • Maintain information flow with Architects, QS and Design Consultants for coordinated design
  • Ensure BIM input in Revit; produce design info and calculations compliant with QA and codes
  • Represent AECOM at client, design team and progress meetings; support tender responses
  • Ensure alignment with Project Management Plan, Programme, and Safety Health & Environment policy
  • Mentor junior staff; manage small multi-disciplinary projects; support contractor pre-qualification

Key requirements

  • Previous public health engineering experience in design consultancy or similar
  • Strong knowledge of statutory regulations and ability to obtain approvals
  • Ability to work independently with good time/task management
  • Experience in mixed-use, residential, commercial and healthcare sectors
  • AutoCAD proficiency for 2D drawings; proficient in 3D Revit and Navisworks
  • Clear written and oral communication skills
  • Chartered Engineer with CIBSE / IET / IMechE (or working towards); BEng (MEng preferred)
