Our Water team is on the lookout for a passionate Senior Flood Modeller to join our dynamic and rapidly growing Water Business Line. This is your chance to help deliver high‑profile, influential projects across the UK and beyond, working at the heart of one of the UK's most ambitious and connected northern engineering hubs. In this role, you will be a senior technical resource guiding junior staff and proactively developing our offering to local authorities, water companies, private and public‑sector clients.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and checking hydraulic models (using Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC‑RAS and ICM) to assist the design of Flood Alleviation Schemes, deliver Flood Risk Assessments and conduct reservoir flood studies.
  • Develop water quality models (physico‑chemical, biological, bacterial or chemical) using industry standard software such as MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT or ICM.
  • Conceptualise and scope modelling approaches, considering the risks and opportunities in each.
  • Undertake and check hydrological assessments using the Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2 and WINFAP.
  • Lead and contribute to tenders ranging from innovative one‑off projects to multimillion‑pound framework contracts.
  • Mentor staff within the team to support their professional development.
  • Build relationships with clients and across other technical disciplines.
  • Keep up to date with developments in legislation and guidelines that may affect our services.
  • Use AECOM's project management systems to deliver high‑quality outputs in line with agreed programmes and budgets.
  • Work closely with clients and teams of engineers and technical specialists to deliver a wide range of fluvial, coastal, surface‑water or drainage flood‑risk management projects.

You will also be self‑motivated with the ability to work autonomously when required, demonstrating a strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn and a desire to thrive in a dynamic, deadline‑driven team environment.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of significant experience in hydraulic and water‑quality modelling software (Mike, ICM, SIMCAT, Flood Modeller and/or TUFLOW).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood model preparation for risk assessments.
  • Basic understanding of physico‑chemical water quality and associated regulatory standards for freshwater.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • Obtained or near obtaining professional qualification with CIWEM or a similar body.
  • Practical knowledge of scripting programmes such as Python, Anaconda, Ruby would be advantageous.
