Our national Technology Services team are looking for a Technology Services Consultant to deliver Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV), Smart Cities, Mobility and all forms of technology‑led transport projects to clients across the UK and internationally. The team provides services to a diverse client base, from strategic advisory services through to technical research, design and delivery related engineering services. The Technology Services team works closely with clients and partners, largely in the Transportation Sector, although this role will also support other sectors due to its specialist nature. Our clients are many and varied and span National Transport Authorities, Combined Authorities, Local Authorities and Contractors as well as the private sector and internal UK and International AECOM businesses.

Recent and Current Projects Include:

  • Innovative transport technology projects, including Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV), Cooperative ITS (C‑ITS), Mobility as a Service (MaaS), and the planning, design and implementation of Smart Motorways schemes and performance assessments.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of next‑generation mobility solutions, including connected vehicle testbeds and autonomous vehicle trials.
  • Developing ITS strategies, action plans, and transformational programmes for transport authorities and national road operators.
  • Planning, designing, and implementing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), control centres, telecommunications networks, speed enforcement systems, and traffic management solutions.
  • Contributing to sustainable transport initiatives, including EV charging infrastructure, renewable energy projects, and depot decarbonisation.

The team provides technical leadership of projects throughout the project lifecycle from feasibility, preliminary and detailed design stages through to performance monitoring and assessment.

Here’s a broad sample of what you’ll do as a Consultant:

  • Provide specialist technical consultancy and design services for the development of projects and bids and subsequent delivery of technical work across Intelligent Transport Systems, Smart Cities, Mobility solutions, C‑ITS.
  • Keep up to date with new developments, technologies and skills helping you and AECOM push the boundaries of mobility through the next generation ITS, CAV and smart cities and acting as a technology scout exploring emerging opportunities within the Technology Services team.
  • Conduct research, data analysis and propose recommendations relative to the client, technology and the future.
  • Support the capture of client, stakeholder, system and user requirements, developing systems and services, system architecture, design documentation and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with AECOM colleagues and project partners to support the development and delivery of opportunities, bids and projects.
  • Support identification and engagement of strategic partners and industry to support opportunity development and raise your and our technical and business profile.

Requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, maths or Physics.
  • Experience in a similar role in the transportation, technology or ICT related sectors (Smart Cities, Intelligent Transport Systems, Connected and Automated Vehicles, MaaS).
  • Growing knowledge and interest of ITS and/or technologies which provide a recognised contribution to modern transportation.
  • You may have research skills, software development experience and be a user of AI platforms and methods.
  • Understanding in transport technology market demands, trends and challenges.
