Job Overview

This Design Manager role leads a multidisciplinary design team on water infrastructure projects in our rapidly growing South East offices. You will coordinate civil/structural, process, mechanical, and electrical engineers to produce single‑solution designs for multiple water and wastewater treatment facilities under the Southern Water Services framework. The position offers a flexible hybrid working model.

Responsibilities

  • Lead – Drive technical delivery of wastewater and water infrastructure projects, managing multi‑disciplinary teams from concept to hand‑over.
  • Manage – Oversee key packages of work, interfacing with AECOM teams, clients and suppliers to create a seamless technical solution.
  • Collaborate – Work closely with clients and AECOM counterparts to secure stakeholder buy‑in, and contribute to AECOM’s wider technical capability and innovative approach.
  • Develop – Perform line‑manager duties for several staff, support the development of junior team members, and mentor them throughout projects.

Qualifications

  • Experience in managing the technical delivery of water and wastewater engineering projects with multi‑disciplinary knowledge, including treatment schemes and/or pipeline design.
  • Experience leading multi‑disciplinary design teams and acting as a Technical Lead in at least one discipline.
  • A degree or equivalent in civil, electrical, mechanical or related engineering; Chartered or Incorporated with ICE, CIWEM, or working toward it.
  • Hands‑on experience designing complex wastewater treatment solutions and undertaking feasibility studies, options appraisal, and concept design for water company clients and design‑and‑build contractors.
  • Relevant experience in feasibility studies, options appraisal and concept design for water company clients or design‑and‑build contractors.
