Our Building Services team are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Building Services Design Consultant Engineering team based in our Croydon office to help support the delivery of project work.
We are seeking an enthusiastic self-motivated person who has excellent written and verbal communication skills and who wants to make a difference in the mechanical engineering field of building services as well as being involved with all other disciplines. We are specifically looking to appoint a mechanical engineer who has a minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical building services design. Some design experience and knowledge is required for heating and cooling pipework systems, ventilation systems and control systems. We have a number of in-house digital tools which the engineer will be trained to use. Experience in using building services engineering software, Autodesk Revit, and a willingness to learn as a mechanical building services engineer are all essential.
The Croydon MEP team currently consists of approx. 16 engineers, with the intention of growing over the next few years. The team works very closely with our St Albans and London offices and the candidate may be required to work in these offices from time to time and resources being shared both ways to ensure teams are supported when needed. The Croydon office MEP team have an established track record of successfully delivering local and regional projects. Some of our flagship work in recent years include; No 1 Knightsbridge, One Braham, Sackville House, Lots Road Powerhouse, London Ambulance Services South London 11 Control Centre; Tower Bridge; London Power Tunnel 2; Snowdonia VIP Cable Tunnel to name but a few. We are also working on a number of public and private sector decarbonisation schemes.
Job Responsibilities
- Supporting multiple projects and teams with direct design and delivery activities for all phases of a project or a number of projects.
- Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
- Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
- Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations.
- Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.
- Identifies discrepancies in results.
- Provides guidance to trainee engineers.
- Performs work in accordance with agreed time frame with supervision.
- Contributes to the development of technical proposals.
- To support and lead our 3D and BIM capabilities.
- Knowledge and experience of mechanical building services calculations and design.
- A highly motivated individual able to quickly grasp new concepts and design tools.
- Ability to speak fluently and communicate effectively in written reports and oral presentations.
- Relevant experience in building services mechanical engineering design, including areas such as specification writing, calculations, and developing.
- Conversant with UK codes and practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- BSc or BEng in an Engineering degree or MEng in an Engineering degree with engineering accreditation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Registered as a Member with a professional institution and follows a training plan towards the intended professional registration with either the Institute of Mechanical Engineers or the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers.
- Existing BPSS or SC preferred.
- Due to the nature of the projects our team work on a sole UK National is preferred.
