We are looking for a Marine Ecologist Lead (Technical Director) based in our UK and Ireland offices, working on diverse marine projects from floating offshore wind to habitat restoration. You will lead a high-specialised marine ecology team, manage client relationships, and drive the technical quality of all marine ecological work.
Responsibilities
- Act as the subject‑matter expert for marine ecology, providing technical marine ecological and consenting advice, directing inputs to all project deliverables and supporting the full EIA/DCO development cycle.
- Ensure the quality of all marine ecology deliverables, applying rigorous quality management procedures and excellent writing and communication skills.
- Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with specialists in underwater acoustics, coastal processes, water science, marine archaeology, and EIA colleagues to enhance environmental outcomes.
- Lead business development for the marine ecology team by developing technical and fee proposals, marketing activities, and client liaison.
- Manage projects, resources, and budgets, reporting progress internally and to clients, and procure and manage specialist subcontractors; project‑management training will be provided to achieve AECOM accreditation.
- Mentor and train team members, fostering an environment where individuals can thrive.
Qualifications
- Comprehensive marine ecological expertise with experience preparing and reviewing specialist technical chapters and impact assessments (e.g., HRA, MCZ, WFD).
- In‑depth knowledge of marine consenting and licensing regimes across the UK and experience liaising with regulatory bodies such as the MMO, NRW, Scottish MD and The Crown Estate.
- Ability to provide technical advice and apply advanced scientific practices, theories and technologies to diverse marine projects.
- Line‑management experience, including mentoring junior staff and leading a team.
- Business‑development experience, including preparing tenders and client presentations.
