AECOM CS Federal is seeking to hire a 2nd shift Construction Superintendent for our construction project at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, VA.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall on-site administrative and technical management for a wide range of construction projects.
  • Responsible for the organization and direction of construction and related activities within assigned area of responsibility.
  • May be the primary client contact for all the jobsite day-to-day activities or may coordinate with client's resident representatives on jobsite activities.
  • Maintain control of the site and subcontractors.
  • Ensure assigned jobsite operations are in compliance with site safety protocols and subcontractor compliance.
  • Ensure subcontractor work aligns with client & subcontract requirements.
  • Understand CPM schedules and sequencing of work.
  • Focus on production, manpower efficiency, and milestone completion.
  • Plan several weeks ahead instead of only reacting to daily issues.
  • Ability to identify constructability concerns in advance of scheduled work.
  • Find solutions and not only identify problems.
  • Produce and maintain accurate daily reports and tracking.
  • Document issues properly through RFIs, daily logs and real-time communication with on-site project management.
  • Build trust with crews and subcontractors.
  • Facilitate AECOM/CS Federal Tishman policy/protocols.
  • Interface with all other administrative field staff, field management staff and particularly the Project Manager in a coordinated effort.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, engineering technology, building construction, building science or a similar field.
  • 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid US Drivers License.
  • Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working as a Superintendent on a government construction project.
  • Ability to work scheduled 2nd shift for the duration of the project.
  • Construction sequencing/scheduling experience.
  • A strong working knowledge of Procore.
  • HAZWOPER certification.
  • NAVFAC experience.
  • Familiar with requirements of USACE EM 385-1-1, and experience in the areas of hazard identification and safety compliance.
  • Familiar with the United Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS).
  • Knowledge on the 3 phases of quality construction.
  • Experience in heavy civil and/or marine construction.
  • CQM certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days after hire.
  • EM-385-1-1 and OSHA 30 certification required or the ability to obtain within 30 days after hire.

Physical Demands:

Construction field positions require physical stamina and mobility, including the ability to climb ladders and stairs, use personnel hoists, and move through various terrain and active construction zones. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Team members must be capable of using their hands to handle tools and materials, and perform activities such as sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted may be necessary on an occasional basis. Individuals in construction field roles work primarily on active job sites where exposure to environmental and job-related hazards is common, with or without accommodation. These environments may include proximity to heavy machinery, elevated work areas, airborne particles, varying weather conditions, and potential electrical risks. Noise levels may vary from moderate to high depending on the phase of construction. Employees may be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and must remain alert to ensure safety. Additional duties may be assigned as needed based on the scope and progress of the project.
