Are you ready to join a team of flood risk specialists and shape the future of the Water Industry? Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Flood Modeller in one of our UK offices – while also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model. You will be a senior technical resource that will guide our more junior staff and proactively develop our offering to mainly the Environment Agency and private sector clients.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Expert: Lead the estimation of flood flows using established methodologies in the Flood Estimations Handbook. Develop and check hydraulic models (using packages such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC‑RAS and InfoWorks ICM) to assist the design of flood alleviation schemes, flood risk assessments, river restoration projects or the Environment Agency's flood maps.
  • Deliver: Lead and input into tenders ranging from innovative one‑off projects to multimillion pound framework contracts. Produce and review high‑quality technical reports documenting model build and uncertainties in the model build process. Conceptualise and scope modelling and hydrological approaches, with consideration of the risks and opportunities in each.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with our clients and teams of engineers and technical specialists to help our clients deliver a wide range of fluvial, coastal, surface water or drainage flood risk management projects.
  • Lead: Mentor staff within the team to support their professional development and build relationships with clients and across other technical disciplines.
  • Quality: Keep up‑to‑date with developments in legislation and guidelines that may affect our services. Use AECOM's project management systems to deliver high‑quality outputs to our clients in line with the agreed programme and budget.

  • Severn Trent Water Design Services Framework supporting the construction of major schemes.
  • Southern Water Strategic Delivery Partner supporting Kier in the delivery of non‑infrastructure water and wastewater projects.
  • Wessex Water Capital Delivery Framework which comprises projects from optioneering to detailed design, including environmental investigations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or another relevant discipline.
  • Obtained or close to obtaining professional qualification with CIWEM or similar.
  • Significant experience in the application of hydraulic modelling software (Flood Modeller and/or TUFLOW) and hydrological assessments using FEH and REFH2.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements in preparing flood models for flood risk assessments.
  • Strong GIS skills using QGIS, ArcGIS and/or MapInfo.
  • Experience with other modelling types and software would be advantageous, such as flood forecasting modelling or water quality modelling using Mike 11.
