Overview AECOM's Energy Business Unit houses three specialised practices - renewables (including hydropower), electrical transmission & distribution and in the UK only, nuclear. Are you ready to take on the role of Hydropower Lead in our rapidly expanding hydro team? You will be responsible for undertaking both a technical role on projects within our energy business and a business role comprising team leadership and business development. You will be aware that hydro has a strong international dimension and while collaborating with hydro colleagues across the globe the focus will be on projects in the UK and Ireland and countries throughout Europe and India (EURI). Projects may include all stages of design from feasibility to detailed design and site construction supervision both in the UK and internationally. Our clients are a mix between large energy utility generators and private developers and contractors.
Here’s what you’ll do: As our Hydropower Lead, you will be a senior member of the team and responsible for developing and leading a high-performing team, project delivery, and maintaining client, supply chain and internal relationships on an international basis. Implicit in the above, you will review and generate technical and contractual information from both internal and external sources.
Responsibilities- Serve as a program manager, project manager, or technical lead, directing teams on major hydropower projects and programs; leading multi-disciplinary teams to successful completion of the project, focusing on client communication and delivery.
- Lead the pursuit of major hydropower projects, leading major proposals and engaging with clients.
- Support senior leaders in the development of business strategies for hydropower based on market trends and identify and pursue opportunities within the business line and adjacent sectors.
- Lead client-facing activities to develop business with existing clients and win work with new clients, build strong relationships with clients, teaming partners, industry groups, and stakeholders related to the market sector.
- Develop strategies and capture plans for major pursuits, aligning with AECOM’s business development strategies and technical capabilities.
- Maintain regular interaction with clients to ensure satisfaction with AECOM services and engage with project delivery personnel to proactively address client feedback on team performance.
- Coordinate with AECOM’s Technical Practice Leads to match team skills with market trends and drive strategic technical leadership hires.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary design of hydropower energy infrastructure.
- Respond to technical queries.
- Act as lead verifier on reports including technical feasibility studies and design reports (depending on core engineering discipline).
- Direct less senior members of staff and mentor more junior engineers.
- BEng (Hons) degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical or Environmental).
- Chartered status or actively working towards chartership.
- Background in civil, electrical, mechanical, environmental or project management experience in the hydropower sector and demonstration of a high degree of technical competence.
- Experience leading projects in the following areas: Hydroelectric design – conventional and pumped storage, Hydroelectric construction, Hydroelectric commissioning, Developing teams, Working with clients and collaborators on an international level.
- Membership of a recognised professional body relative to our core markets.
- Strong track record of achieving or exceeding financial KPIs and driving business development.
- Experience working with various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, transportation and commercial development.
- Experience in leading and growing large teams and successful financial performance and business development/sales/growth experience in the public or private sectors.
- Demonstrated dedication to fostering a culture of respect, diversity and inclusion within the team and organisation.
- Proven ability to build and retain a diverse and inclusive workforce while nurturing talent development and coaching.
The existing hydropower team in AECOM's EURI is UK based and it is anticipated that this appointment will be made in the UK although the specific location will be flexible.
