Job Description

We’re looking for talented and motivated students to join our Traffic Engineering team on an Industrial Placement, where you’ll gain hands-on experience, contribute to real projects, and develop technical skills that will kick-start your career. As part of our Streets & Technology group within AECOM’s Transportation business line, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers to design, analyse, and improve transport networks that support safe, efficient, and sustainable mobility.

What You’ll Do

  • Designing and modelling urban streets, junctions, and roundabouts using industry-standard software (e.g., Junctions, LinSig, VISSIM).
  • Supporting traffic impact assessments and microsimulation modelling.
  • Assisting with road safety audits and developing traffic management solutions.
  • Analysing traffic data, journey times, and flows to inform design and planning.
  • Contributing to active travel projects by designing walking, cycling, and public transport-friendly networks.
  • Supporting feasibility studies and scheme appraisals for transport improvements.
  • Preparing drawings, reports, and presentations to communicate findings to clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Currently studying towards a degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation/Traffic Engineering, Highway Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Passionate about shaping the future of mobility and improving how people move within towns and cities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with solid numeracy.
  • Can work effectively as part of a team and communicate ideas clearly.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Detail-oriented with excellent research and report-writing skills.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and eager to learn new software and tools.
  • Eligible to work in the UK & Ireland for the duration of the placement.
