Joining our established and expanding nuclear team as a Principal Waste Consultant, you will engage in a diverse and growing array of international and UK-based projects. This role offers the chance to participate in multi-disciplinary projects at various stages of the lifecycle, from client consultancy to comprehensive turn‑key solutions. Your responsibilities will extend to client interaction, crafting bids and proposals, and overseeing project delivery in line with AECOM's standards for quality, safety, and environmental care.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting and delivering technical work across a range of projects.
  • Managing tasks and projects covering technical, quality and financial management.
  • Supporting and mentoring team members.
  • Liaising and collaborating with colleagues, clients and their advisors to deliver work on time, budget and achieving technical excellence.
  • Multitasking: working across several projects and proposals at one time.
  • Preparing costed proposals and other business development materials.
  • Building positive long‑term client relationships.
  • Building internal networks to promote our services within AECOM.
  • Supporting the practice leadership to identify and secure new internal and external opportunities.
  • Conducting waste management studies – strategy development, Integrated Waste Strategies, radioactive waste inventory development.
  • Developing waste‑led decommissioning strategies.
  • Performing environmental studies, including Best Available Technique (BAT) assessments.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A desire to deliver technical excellence.
  • Project and financial management experience.
  • Commercial awareness for business development and proposal preparation.
  • Excellent communication in English and solid numeracy skills.
  • A self‑starter who can design and deliver work under their own initiative.
  • Experience with radioactive waste management, including:
    • Environmental permitting and compliance.
    • Environmental safety cases.
    • Waste‑informed decommissioning studies.
    • Site end‑state management.
    • Regulation of radioactive substances and waste.
    • Higher Active Waste (HAW) – e.g., preparing RWM disposal assessments.
    • Knowledge of the Radioactive Waste Advisor role.
    • Waste characterisation, treatment, conditioning, packaging, storage, transport or disposal.
    • Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) management.
  • You will also be self‑motivated with an ability to work both autonomously and as part of a dynamic, deadline‑driven team environment.
