Shape the Future of Transport in Wales - Join AECOM as a Highways & Traffic Engineer in Cardiff. Are you ready to make a tangible impact on the streets and communities of South Wales? AECOM's Cardiff-based Streets team is looking for a talented and driven Engineer to help design and deliver innovative traffic engineering and urban realm projects. From concept to construction, you'll play a key role in shaping safer, more sustainable, and people‑friendly transport networks for local authorities and national clients.
Responsibilities
- Develop preliminary and detailed designs for traffic engineering, streetscape, and local highway schemes.
- Prepare high‑quality technical outputs including drawings, reports, and specifications.
- Ensure all designs meet relevant standards, regulations, and client expectations.
- Collaborate with engineers, planners, and technicians across AECOM's business lines.
- Support and mentor team members, helping to delegate and coordinate tasks.
- Deliver work to agreed timescales, budgets, and quality standards.
- Promote and apply Health & Safety best practices, including CDM responsibilities.
- Provide regular updates to the Principal Engineer or Project Manager on project progress.
Qualifications
- Experience in developing feasibility, preliminary, and detailed designs for local roads and traffic schemes.
- Familiarity with design elements such as alignment, drainage, pavements, road restraint systems, signage, and markings.
- Knowledge of cycling infrastructure, traffic calming, junction design, and footway/carriageway improvements.
- Understanding of relevant design standards including TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, and the Traffic Signs Manual.
- Aware of Health & Safety and CDM regulations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- BSc, BEng, or MEng in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
