To support this growth, we are currently seeking a Technical Director to lead the development of our Aviation Advisory business in the UK, Europe and India to grow the project pipeline and expand the team. This role will develop winning proposals and work across aviation advisory projects in the UK and internationally. The position may be based in any of our UK AECOM offices. We seek a strategic business thinker with a strong industry network who will drive advisory business development and secure project opportunities that impact the aviation sector. The incumbent will understand our services and develop a portfolio of advisory offerings, embodying disciplines from our four key business lines. Expertise in ORAT or other specialist advisory skills is an advantage. Clients include airport owners, contractors, governments, and regulatory bodies, and we pursue a diverse range of opportunities across the aviation advisory sector.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize your network to seek opportunities with current and new clients, building a pipeline of advisory projects. Develop relationships to trusted advisor status and build AECOM’s profile in the sector through conference participation, thought leadership, and social media.
  • Manage a team of up to five people with varied skills and seniority to deliver complex projects on demanding deadlines and high quality.
  • Write strategy for the advisory business, identify target markets and clients, build the service portfolio, set annual P&L targets, and identify strategic recruitment needs.
  • Provide consultancy services across disciplines including airport master planning, capacity analysis, terminal and support facility planning, airfield planning and phasing, airside and terminal simulation modelling, and environmental and sustainability advice.
  • Provide expert technical and business advice and analysis through project management and delivery. Work alongside other aviation technical teams, including technical due diligence and advisory roles, and support major bids and programmes where specialist knowledge is required.
  • Oversee the quality of deliverables before they are presented to clients.
  • Be part of our wider Europe and India Aviation team—a multi‑cultural, multi‑disciplinary team across the UK, Europe, and India.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree. Membership of an appropriately recognised professional institution.
  • Technical experience in airport planning, design, engineering, or construction.
  • Project management experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams, delivering projects to required quality, within time and budget, with understanding of quality control, programming and budgeting.
  • Business development experience developing and maintaining client relationships and backlog, and experience with consultancy contracts.
  • International experience with international companies or working in an international setting.
  • Team management experience building and developing teams.
  • Advisory experience: Demonstrated client and stakeholder network within the aviation industry, with proven track record of winning and delivering advisory projects.
