We are seeking a highly technical and collaborative Team Lead for our Power System Studies team in the UK&I to spearhead our Power System Studies capability. In this role, you will develop and lead a team of engineers in performing complex simulations, ensuring the stability and protection of electrical infrastructure. You will act as the primary technical authority for power systems modelling, from initial feasibility through to commissioning.
In this leadership role, you will be a key member of our Transmission & Distribution team dedicated to engaging with our clients and directly contributing to the successful delivery of groundbreaking and technically challenging Power System Studies. This is a technical team lead role in combination with integrated project management and delivery to support the growth of our UK & Ireland T&D practice.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Provide strategic and technical leadership in the design, development, and implementation of Power System Studies.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Power System engineers and technical specialists.
- Perform, analyze, and review the Power System Studies (steady state, dynamic & transients) and its reports.
- Establish technical standards, procedures, and best practices for Power System Studies.
- Provide Power System expertise from the concept to detailed design of transmission & distribution projects, including substations, power generating stations, data centers, BESS and renewables.
- Provide technical expertise in bids and proposals and represent the Company in client meetings as a senior member of the Power System Studies team.
- Take responsibility for assigned project scope, technical delivery, and client engagement for PSS scope within projects.
- Provide expert technical evaluations and offer problem-solving solutions to different team members.
- Contribute to written proposals outlining all project details, including the timeline, resources, budget, objectives, and goals.
- Interface with clients and stakeholders to explain complex technical findings and provide actionable engineering recommendations.
- Ensure adherence to AECOM and client design management processes while leading project and client meetings as needed.
- Actively participate in business and strategic planning activities to identify opportunities to continue the growth of the business.
- Mentor team members in their development, facilitating opportunities that build competency, and assisting with professional accreditation where appropriate.
- Ensure design submissions comply with codes, standards such as IEEE, IEC, National Grid, and quality requirements.
- Drive innovation in AI, digital, scripts automation, develop the user defined dynamic & transient models.
- Assess emerging trends and technologies in Power Systems to enhance system performance and reliability.
- Actively represent AECOM in conferences, working groups, technical forums by submitting and presenting technical papers.
Qualifications:
- Electrical Engineering degree (a focus on Power Systems is preferred).
- Significant power systems engineering experience, with some experience working in a lead or supervisory capacity.
- Chartered Engineer status is required.
- Significant experience in UK & Ireland projects is preferable; ideally from a private/consultancy background.
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in Power System Studies (steady state, dynamic and transients).
- Experience working as the subject matter expert (SME) for industry-standard software suites (e.g., ETAP, PSS®E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD and others).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Innovation mindset and track record of publishing technical papers & presentations.
- Proven experience in Load Flow, short circuit, contingency & Reactive Power Studies, Power Quality Studies, Grid Code Compliance Studies, Grid Interconnection Studies, Insulation Coordination Studies, Python Scripting & Automation.
