Consultant hydraulic modeller to support the continued growth of AECOM’s UK & Ireland Water resources team based in Bristol. The role involves technical delivery of flood risk modelling and water management projects across the UK, taking ownership of hydraulic modelling projects, and supporting graduate team members.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake 1D‑2D hydraulic modelling commissions to assess fluvial, surface water, and tidal flooding.
  • Perform additional technical work including Flood Risk Assessments, hydrological assessments, flood defence design, strategic flood risk assessments, sustainable urban drainage system designs, and environmental statements.
  • Deliver technical work to high quality standards within defined budgets and programmes.
  • Nurture and develop graduate team members.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree (2:1 or above) in Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
  • Experience in the application of 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling techniques using software such as Flood Modeller Pro, TUFLOW and InfoWorks ICM.
  • Experience in GIS software including QGIS, ArcGIS and MapInfo.
  • Experience producing hydraulic modelling reporting deliverables.
  • A track record of successful delivery of flood risk and water management projects, including liaison with private/public sector clients and regulators.
  • Ability to deliver modelling projects within defined budget and programme expectations.
  • Personable, team‑focused and capable of setting a positive example for graduate team members.
  • Experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments.
  • Working knowledge of hydrological flow estimation techniques (WINFAP‑FEH, ReFH2).
  • M.Sc. / Ph.D. in relevant technical areas is advantageous.
  • Working towards Chartership with ICE/CIWEM.
