Australia is entering a significant period of investment in defence capability and infrastructure. The 2024 National Defence Strategy and Integrated Investment Program set out a long-term program to strengthen the Australian Defence Force and build the capabilities required to respond to an evolving strategic environment. The AUKUS partnership, alongside Australia's growing focus on nuclear-powered submarine capability and broader sovereign defence capability, is creating exciting opportunities for professionals with experience across defence, nuclear and major infrastructure programs.

AECOM is supporting Australia's Defence sector through the planning, design and delivery of critical infrastructure and capability programs. Our teams bring together global expertise and deep local knowledge to deliver complex, secure and resilient assets across the defence estate. From major defence infrastructure and facilities through to highly specialised nuclear programs, we work with clients to develop solutions that are safe, adaptable and fit for the future.

We have several opportunities across our Defence business in Australia, with a particular focus on Adelaide. We are interested in hearing from experienced professionals with backgrounds in defence, nuclear, NSQEP and major infrastructure, including those looking to bring their UK experience to Australia. Relocation packages are available for suitably qualified candidates.

We are particularly interested in candidates with:

  • Defence or nuclear experience
  • Experience working within the Nuclear Defence sector, highly regulated environments with NSQEP experience highly regarded.
  • Relevant qualifications
  • A degree or relevant professional qualification in your discipline.
  • Technical expertise
  • Strong technical capability within your discipline and experience delivering complex projects to high standards.
  • Major project experience
  • Experience working on large-scale, multidisciplinary or highly regulated infrastructure programs.
  • Leadership and collaboration
  • The ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams, clients and industry partners.
  • Security clearance
  • Existing AUKUS security clearance is advantageous. Candidates will need to meet the relevant AUKUS security clearance and eligibility requirements for the position.

Our preference is for candidates to be based in Adelaide, with opportunities also available in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, depending on discipline and project requirements. These opportunities will be advertised across Australia and the UK, and we welcome expressions of interest from experienced professionals wherever they are currently based. For candidates considering a move from the UK to Australia, relocation packages and sponsorship are available for suitably qualified candidates.
