The Information Manager is responsible for delivering an accessible, efficient, and compliant information management consultancy service that supports innovation and maximises the effective use of AECOM and client processes and systems. This role is critical in safeguarding client reputation by ensuring all project teams adhere to statutory obligations, industry standards, and established best practice in information management.
As a Senior Information Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of robust, compliant, and value-driven information management practices across programmes and projects. You will ensure information is treated as a strategic asset—supporting informed decision-making, enabling digital delivery, and driving organisational value. You will establish and embed governance frameworks aligned with industry standards (e.g. ISO 19650, ISO 27001), oversee Common Data Environments (CDEs), and drive consistency, compliance, and continuous improvement across all information management processes.
Here's what you'll do:
- Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Define and implement enterprise-level information management strategies aligned to organisational and client objectives.
- Establish and maintain IM policies, standards, and procedures in line with ISO 19650 and broader governance frameworks.
- Contribute to corporate information governance strategy and business planning.
- Promote a consistent, scalable approach to IM across programmes and portfolios.
- Compliance, Risk & Assurance
- Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and contractual requirements, including ISO 19650 suite, UK GDPR & Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Records Act 1958.
- Lead information risk management, ensuring risks are identified, reported, and mitigated.
- Provide assurance reporting to senior stakeholders.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, standards, and emerging best practice.
- Information Lifecycle & Data Governance
- Oversee end-to-end information lifecycle management (creation, classification, storage, retrieval, retention, disposal).
- Define and implement data governance frameworks, including metadata standards, naming conventions, and classification structures.
- Ensure information quality, integrity, accessibility, and security across systems.
- Enable effective use of information for business intelligence and decision-making.
- Digital Systems & CDE Management
- Lead the configuration, administration, and optimisation of digital platforms including Common Data Environments (CDEs), Microsoft 365 / SharePoint Online, Autodesk and related BIM platforms.
- Govern access controls, workflows, metadata schemas, and automation.
- Ensure systems support ISO 19650 workflows and digital delivery requirements.
- Team Leadership & Capability Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop Information Management and Document Control teams.
- Allocate resources effectively based on project priorities and risk profiles.
- Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and professional development.
- Promote a strong culture of collaboration, accountability, and data-driven delivery.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders on IM risks, strategy, and opportunities.
- Engage with clients, contractors, and supply chain partners to align IM practices.
- Lead training, communications, and awareness initiatives to embed best practice.
- Support organisational change by driving adoption of digital and data-led processes.
- Reporting & Performance Management
- Monitor and report on IM performance, risks, and compliance against agreed KPIs.
- Maintain and track risk registers and improvement plans.
- Produce clear, insight-driven reports for governance forums and leadership teams.
Here's what we're looking for:
- Strong knowledge of data modelling and information structures, including schemas, metadata, and classification aligned to ISO 19650.
- Ability to define data architectures enabling interoperability across CDEs, BIM, and enterprise systems.
- Basic understanding of Power BI and data visualisation, translating data into actionable insights.
- Awareness of AI and machine learning applications.
- Experience with cloud platforms supporting secure information management.
Domain Knowledge:

- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Information Management, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Experience aligned to senior-level frameworks.
