AECOM provides a full range of tunnelling and underground structure design and management services serving clients in both the public and private sectors. We provide one‑stop access to services ranging across project and construction management, feasibility studies, concept, basic and detailed design, and risk management for all types of tunnelling and underground works.

We’re looking for a Principal Tunnelling Engineer to work on Major Civils projects of a tunnelling nature at all levels to join our teams across the UK.

Although advertised as a full time role, part time options will also be considered.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Act as a Design Lead for elements of a project, liaising directly with clients and the wider design team for the day to day design development but being guided by a Technical Lead / mentor.
  • Manage more junior engineers in the design of infrastructure elements.
  • Provide input to the development.

Qualifications Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Educated to degree level in Civil or Civil & Structural Engineering, or MSc/MEng in Soil Mechanics/Geotechnical/Tunnelling Engineering, with/working towards a professional membership.
  • Broad experience as a designer in Reinforced Concrete to Eurocodes in relation to underground structures such as secant piles, capping beams, segmental shaft linings, in situ concrete structural elements, D‑Walls, shafts and tunnels.
  • Good familiarity of Geotechnical Engineering principles as they apply to soil‑structure interaction.
