Start here. Grow here. AECOM’s thriving Streets team, part of our Transportation Business Line, is seeking an enthusiastic Engineer to join our team in Birmingham.

Why AECOM in Birmingham? The team is growing to cater for an increased workload, particularly in Active Travel, Bus user Priority, Highway Improvement and Infrastructure schemes. We provide concept, preliminary and detailed designs, community engagement, project delivery and construction management services on a wide range of multi-disciplinary transportation and traffic engineering schemes.

We are a dedicated team, recognised as market leaders in the transportation sector, actively involved in the delivery of small to large high profile and impactful projects for a range of both local and national clients.

Here’s what you’ll do: You will be ready to take the next step in your career, providing design and technical input on a wide range of projects. You will work on the development of Active Travel and traffic engineering schemes, from concept through to detailed design and implementation. You will manage technical outputs, mentor early-career team, and ensure the successful delivery of high-quality, sustainable transport solutions. You are a self-motivated individual looking to utilise the latest technologies to advance your career in a dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and delivery of Roads, Traffic Engineering, Active Travel, and Urban Realm schemes.
  • Prepare technical outputs including drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Ensure all work meets project briefs, design standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across AECOM and external stakeholders.
  • Delegate and coordinate tasks for graduates and technicians, supporting their development.
  • Champion Health & Safety best practices, including CDM responsibilities.
  • Report regularly to the Project Manager on progress and risks.

Qualifications:

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for: A confident and capable engineer with a strong background in Roads, Active Travel and Traffic Engineering. You’ll be passionate about delivering high-quality infrastructure that improves mobility, safety, and sustainability. A relevant degree and be working towards Incorporated or Chartered status with a recognised Professional Institution or have equivalent industry experience.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in scoping, preliminary, and detailed design of Roads, Active Travel and Traffic Engineering schemes.
  • Experience in infrastructure for walking, cycling, bus priority, and traffic calming.
  • Strong knowledge of design elements such as drainage, junctions, and carriageway improvements.
  • Familiarity with relevant design standards including TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, MCHW, LTN 1/20, and the CDM Regulations.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety and CDM regulations.
