As a Senior Cost Manager, you will lead a team to manage and deliver capital investment projects, including asset refurbishment or replacement of existing assets. This role provides client-side cost management support throughout the project delivery lifecycle, from option studies to NEC contract administration.
Responsibilities
- Lead the successful delivery of cost/commercial management services on multi-disciplinary Transmission, Distribution and Power Systems projects.
- Client‐side cost/commercial management, including stakeholder, risk, and contract management.
- Ensure projects and commissions are delivered to the satisfaction of the client for budget management.
- Support and manage the cost/commercial management team, ensuring appropriate resources are provided on projects to meet client and business requirements.
- Actively manage contractors and subcontractors' payments and final accounts in accordance with contract conditions.
- Develop strong relationships with clients and members of the cross‐functional team.
- Support business development opportunities with existing and new clients.
Qualifications
- Experience of working within a client organisation, either directly or through a co‐location/secondment arrangement.
- Highly competent in the use of NEC suite of contracts, particularly the Professional Services Contract (PSC) and Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC).
- Experience of working as part of integrated, multi‐organisation, collaborative teams.
- Infrastructure and cost/commercial management experience, delivering complex projects.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Highly motivated with an excellent industry network.
- Relationship building skills – ability to build strong relationships with clients, teams, and stakeholders, as well as an ability to build and maintain networks of business contacts.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A team player with a 'can‐do' attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful, and flexible.
- Experience of working with NGET business processes, supplier requirements, national development process 500.
- Experience of working on projects in Substations, Overhead Lines, and Cables 33kV – 400kV with DNO or TO.
- Understanding of the UK Transmission and Distribution System along with associated plans and equipment.
- Professional development: engagement in continuous professional development, including pursuing qualifications such as those offered by the RICS and other recognised bodies.
- Stakeholder engagement: ability to communicate and engage with various stakeholders, including internal teams, contractors, and the public, to ensure project alignment and address concerns.
- Financial acumen: skill in budget management and financial oversight to ensure projects are delivered within budget.
- Leadership and team development: capability to lead cost/commercial teams, fostering a collaborative environment and supporting team members' professional growth.
- Adaptability and problem‐solving: ability to adapt to changing circumstances and solve complex problems that may arise during project execution.
- Strategic thinking: understanding of the broader strategic goals of National Grid and how individual projects contribute to these objectives.
- Minimum of five years' cost/commercial management experience.
- A relevant degree such as quantity surveying or equivalent.
- Strong history in both contract (NEC3 and 4) and cost/commercial management.
- A member of a related professional body, preferably chartered.
