Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Planning student to join our Transport Planning team in Belfast for a Summer Placement. As part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, you will support planning and appraisal across a range of transport projects from active travel initiatives to major rail and road infrastructure. Our transport planners work closely with engineers, economists, town planners, and other specialists to deliver practical, real-world solutions. You'll gain valuable insight into how appraisal supports decision-making on major infrastructure and public investment projects.

This placement is ideal for a motivated and curious individual who is keen to apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges, develop technical skills, and gain hands-on experience in a professional environment. You'll be supported throughout your placement with guidance from experienced colleagues and opportunities to learn and grow.

During your placement, you may:

  • Assist with data collection and analysis
  • Support the development and review of transportation models
  • Help prepare infrastructure proposals and business cases
  • Contribute to reports, presentations, and project documentation
  • Attend team meetings and workshops with colleagues across different disciplines

Qualifications

  • Currently studying towards a degree in Transport Planning or a related subject (e.g. Town Planning, Geography, Mathematics)
  • Interest in transport and infrastructure projects
  • Some understanding of economic principles (e.g. cost-benefit analysis)
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, and willing to learn
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team
