Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Senior or Principal Process Engineer in our rapidly growing Belfast or Dublin offices – whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model. Here’s what you’ll do:
- Lead process and hydraulic design for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle in accordance with relevant standards and legislation.
- Prepare, review and approve technical deliverables, including process flow diagrams, mass balances, P&IDs, control philosophies and associated technical and safety documentation, while making sound engineering decisions and identifying when specialist input is required.
- Provide technical leadership and quality assurance, contributing specialist expertise to multidisciplinary studies and supporting effective management of risk, programme, budget and quality objectives.
- Champion safe and compliant design, actively participating in HAZOP and HAZID studies and producing or reviewing key process safety deliverables such as Hazardous Area Classification and Layer of Protection Analysis.
- Collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated, sustainable engineering solutions, representing AECOM in technical discussions and supporting informed decision-making and stakeholder buy-in.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, delegating and overseeing work, providing technical guidance, and contributing to the growth of AECOM’s technical capability and innovative approach.
- Support project delivery through site visits, asset surveys and commissioning activities where required.

Qualifications Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering.
- Working towards or completed Chartered Engineer status with IChemE or CIWEM.
- Experience in wastewater treatment, managing the technical delivery of large-scale engineering projects.
- Experience in water and wastewater process design and optimisation using appropriate Water Company standards and specifications.
- Knowledge of Feasibility and Optioneering Studies for wastewater treatment processes.
- Functional safety awareness and the contribution of the Process Team in this regard forms a significant part of the design process.
- Familiarity with DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations) and how it is applied to typical Wastewater Treatment processes.
