Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technical Director to lead and further develop the electrical engineering discipline within our Building Services team in Belfast. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for technical excellence, innovation, and strategic direction across a diverse portfolio of healthcare, education, and school sector projects. You will provide authoritative technical leadership, mentor and inspire teams, and act as a trusted, client-facing expert helping to deliver sustainable, high-performing, and compliant building solutions.
What you'll do:
- Technical Leadership: Lead the electrical engineering discipline across healthcare, education, and school projects, ensuring full compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Oversee and review designs for LV/HV distribution, lighting, fire detection and alarms, emergency systems, security, ICT, and BMS/BAS. Ensure compliance with healthcare-specific standards, including HTMs, HBNs, and NHS requirements. Champion innovation and the integration of low-carbon and sustainable technologies. Provide technical assurance and governance across the electrical design output.
- Project Delivery: Manage the technical delivery of multiple projects from concept through detailed design and construction. Provide electrical leadership across all RIBA design stages. Review, approve, and sign off technical documentation, specifications, and reports. Collaborate closely with mechanical, public health, sustainability, and digital/BIM teams to deliver fully integrated building services solutions.
- Client & Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary technical point of contact for electrical design matters with clients, consultants, and contractors. Build and maintain strong client relationships, particularly within the healthcare and education sectors, to support repeat business and growth. Contribute to bids, tenders, presentations, and project interviews.
- Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of electrical engineers. Support resource planning, recruitment, succession planning, and performance management. Implement and maintain best practice processes, QA/QC procedures, and adherence to internal and industry standards.
Qualifications:
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the IET or equivalent professional body.
- Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in building services electrical design, including leadership of healthcare and education sector projects.
- Proven track record of delivering complex electrical designs for hospitals, laboratories, universities, and schools.
