Job Description

Our Ports and Marine team in the UK are recognised industry leaders. We deliver port infrastructure projects in the UK, Europe and across the world. Our work supports the movement of global goods, materials, minerals and products through the design, development, refurbishment and construction of ports, port infrastructure, bulk/container terminals, coastal structures from early inception through construction and asset management. We have a large portfolio of clients that include international port operators, developers, local/regional/national governments, communities, investors, port authorities, manufacturers, shipyards, utility companies, mining operators, industrial/pharmaceutical companies and defence organisations.

Currently, one of our landmark projects is the 10 Dock Upgrade in the Devonport Dockyard, which is a £2.5 billion redevelopment of the historic dry dock to accommodate the future and next generations of naval submarines. We are also working for a list of major global clients such as DP World, APMT TIL, BAE Systems, Babcock, Associated British Ports and others in our UK offices supporting our European and global colleagues.

As a graduate you will be involved in:

  • Team member for the planning, preparation and successful completion of deliverables;
  • Have knowledge of undertaking calculations and able to utilise current computer software (including but not limited to ROBOT, GRLWEAP, WALLAP, TEDDS, PLAXIS 3D and others) would be advantageous;
  • Have an understanding of technical specifications, drawings, reports and technical notes;
  • Assist in the preparation of tenders (programme, cost estimate, resourcing, preparation of written quality/technical input, etc);
  • Be part of the team designing structures in the marine environment (including quay wall, piers, jetties, revetment, breakwaters, fendering, scour protection, linkspan supports, dolphins, etc) to the relevant codes and standards;
  • Good understanding of applying British Standards, Eurocodes and best practice in the maritime environment (basic knowledge of PIANC, BS 6349, Port Marine Safety Code, Safety in Docks, etc);
  • Basic understanding of CDM, safety in design and CEMD;
  • Be a team player in working in multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Be able to attend site visits where access will be restricted to ladders.
